Simply adorable!!

Here is a dress that was simple to make. The fabric for it already had the elastic around the bodice which made the fabric more expensive but it made the making of the dress simple. All I had to do was put a seem in the side and ad sleeves. No pattern needed. :) The sleeves have elastic in them that I added to give them a cute little gather. Isn't the dress just adorable!!

Summer fun!

I haven't blogged in a while so I have a few things lined up but I just had to put this one first. I finish my swimsuit top today and it is so cute!! The original pattern had it as a bikini top so I did a bit of altering. I added the skirt like part as well as the little bit in the front to hide the cleavage. Making it took about $20 (plus the pattern) and 6 hours. It just slips over your head and hooks in the back. :)

A little bit of fun.

Anything can come from a pile of scrap fabric. This is one of my favorite creations. I didn't use a pattern but I did use one of my purses as a guide.

The straps are made from braided strips of denim.

The lining is made from part of an old ninja costume that we found in a thrift store. One side as a zipper pocket, the other has a cellphone/Mp3 player pocket.

The outer fabric is left over from a dress I made. Plus to add a but of fun, I added iron-on letters to spell my sister's nick name (the purse was for her).

Ta-dah!!! A master piece!!

Old to new(ish)!! :)

While I was at my grandma's house for easter, she gave me the sewing machine she bought because she liked her old one better. Now I have one that is all mine. :)

Below are pictures of my (mom's) old sewing machine. It is super heavy and a pain to carry. Also, it didn't have an on/off switch for the foot pedal, it only had one for the light.

Below are pictures of my somewhat new sewing machine. It has a handle and it isn't too heavy either. It also has an on/off switch. The switches for changing the stitch options are simpler as well.

My first sale!!

:P I am super excited to announce my first sale!!!! I forgot to take pictures before mailing it though. I'll post some when I get them. My sale was a designed t-shirt. It took forever to come up with the design but it is gorgeous (even if I do say so myself)!!

From old pajamas to the cat's pajamas!!

Being in a big family, there are a lot of hand-me-downs in clothing. One of the biggest problems with this is that something that may look great on one person isn't always going to look nice on someone else. This is especially true when is comes to people with different body types. This is where altering clothing becomes both hand and fun. Taking something old and making it new is a great skill.

The other day I noticed my little sister wearing an old tank top that belonged to my older sister. The neckline was too low in the back and it looked a little strange. After about 10 minutes of convincing her, she let me take my sewing machine to it. With a bit of leftover lace from the red skirt, after twenty minutes, it looked much better on her. Here is a picture of the back after I altered it.
